ULASAN 2: Proses Booting Linux

Assalamualaikum Wr.Wb

Pada pos hari ini, saya akan mengulas video tentang video berjudul "Linux Boot Process" (url : https://youtu.be/ZtVpz5VWjAs). Video ini diunggah oleh Kanal HandsonERP dengan durasi waktu 5 menit 14 detik. Lisensi yang digunakan adalah lisensi youtube standard, dan video telah ditonton sebanyak 93.508 kali sejak pembuatan ulasan.

Dalam video dijelaskan bahwa terdapat langkah-langkah yang dijalankan dalam booting Linux System. Langkah pertama ialah menjalankan BIOS(Basic Input/Output System), yang dimana BIOS ini mencari, memuat dan mengeksekusi boot loader program. setelah BIOS menemukannya, ia akan menjalankan MBR(Master Boot Record) yang dimana terletak pada sektor pertama bootable disk. Didalam MBR memuat Informasi Grub.

Di dalam Grub ini, apabila komputer memiliki banyak kernel image, tampilan grub akan terlihat dan user dapat memilih sistem operasi mana yang akan dijalankan. Namun apabila hanya memiliki satu, komputer akan secara default menjalankan sistem operasi tersebut. Setelah memilih Kernel, maka kernel akan mengeksekusi initrd dan runlevel untuk menentukan program apa sajakah yang dijalankan sesuai dengan kondisi komputer (booting, reboot, shutdown, dll).

Video ini di kemas dengan tampilan animasi yang cukup dasar, dan penjelasannya yang terhenti-henti seperti suara rekaman yang dibuat secara putus-putus dimasukan di dalam video. Walaupun begitu, untuk video 5 menit seperti ini, isinya sangat mudah dipahami, dan cocok untuk pelajar yang baru belajar tentang komputer. Dan saya rasa andaikata saat uts kemarin saya menonton video ini, saya tidak kewalahan dalam menjawab pertanyaan True/False materi tentang Booting. Saya sangat rekomendasikan video ini untuk mahasiswa yang mengambil mata kuliah operating system yang akan datang untuk menontonnya sebelum uts (jika kurikulumnya masih sama).
